About the Coach

Felipe Quintão
Certified MAP Technique Surf Coach
Like many surfers, I wasn’t a natural at the sport. For over ten years, I surfed regularly, believing that time in the water and watching surf videos would be enough to keep improving. But despite my experience, my technical progress eventually stalled.
Everything changed in 2021, when I discovered the MAP Technique (Método Arthur Philippi). Through dedicated training, I developed a deeper understanding of surfing biomechanics, greater awareness of my own movements, and more control over my surfing. I realised that progress wasn’t just about catching more waves, but understanding how and why we move on them.
In February 2025, I became a certified MAP Technique Surf Coach. Today, based in Papamoa, New Zealand, I work primarily with intermediate and advanced surfers who have spent years in the water but feel stuck at a certain level, struggle to understand their own technique, or want to surf with greater intention and control.
My coaching combines filmed surf sessions, detailed video analysis, and movement simulation using surfskate and specific exercises on land. By breaking down complex movements into understandable and trainable elements, I help surfers recognise their technical patterns, identify limitations, and build a clearer path towards progression.
My approach is grounded in biomechanics, structured practice, and the belief that a deeper understanding of movement can transform not only how we surf, but how we experience the ocean.
**The goal isn’t simply to surf more. It’s to understand your surfing, move with greater awareness, and keep progressing.**
