MAP Technique (Method Arthur Philippi)

The MAP Technique was developed by Arthur Philippi, a physical education professional and surfing biomechanics researcher with over 25 years of pioneering studies in the field.

Grounded in biomechanics, this method was designed to teach any surfer regardless of age or skill level how to progress step by step, reaching the equivalent of a “black belt” in surfing.

The MAP Technique is built on three essential pillars:

  • 1. Knowledge – Access to clear information about the most efficient movements for surfing, backed by biomechanics research.

  • 2. Practice – A structured pedagogical process that transforms knowledge into action in and out of the water.

  • 3. Discipline – Commitment from the student to train consistently, building awareness of correct movements until they become second nature.

Through this approach, I can help you to accelerate progress, turning surfing from trial and error into a science-based path toward mastery.
